Mayfield 50

Project category:

Project Location:

Produced at Gorilla HQ in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Project Summary

When Mayfield set out to celebrate their 50th anniversary, they wanted a corporate anniversary video that could anchor two major events: their Limited Partners meeting and an anniversary celebration at Stanford's Cantor Arts Center. The stakes were high, the occasion momentous, and the creative problem unique.

They selected Gorilla Creative, a San Francisco corporate video production company, to produce their anniversary video.

The Challenge

Fifty years of history, hundreds of companies backed, and no practical way to put any of them on camera. Interviews were off the table. A conventional narrated timeline would have felt flat for a room full of people who already knew the story. The video needed to feel like a landmark moment — not a recap.

Our Approach

We developed a creative approach for the video using motion graphics, kinetic text, animated napkin sketches, and archival photos and footage. No voiceover. The structure works like a journey: as the music builds, viewers move through the eras before arriving at a forward-looking close that frames the next 50 years.

We studied Mayfield's brand guidelines and the mood books developed for the anniversary events before designing a single frame — so the final result felt authentically Mayfield and made viewers lean in.

Project Breakdown

"The team at Gorilla Creative constantly exceeded our expectations and took our projects to new heights with their creativity and fun spirit. More than almost any contractor I’ve worked with, they got our vision immediately in our first conversation and proceeded to execute at the highest of levels. On top of their work product, the team was an absolute joy to work with – they were responsive, collaborative, and to put it simply, fun. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone."
