Marqeta Investor Day

Investor video content for Marqeta's Investor Day, filmed at their office in Oakland for a financial audience with high expectations.

Project Summary

Marqeta wanted to produce a virtual investor experience, and the presentation video was the centerpiece. Senior leadership needed to speak directly to investors and analysts, walk through a detailed slide deck, and hold attention for the better part of two hours. Marqeta brought in Gorilla Creative, a corporate video production company in the San Francisco Bay Area, to produce a pre-recorded video rather than run it as a live webcast.

The Challenge

A two hour investor presentation is a different animal than a two minute brand video. The content sits in front of investor relations, finance, legal, and marketing, and all four teams have to sign off. The release date is tied to a public event, so the deadline can't slip. And it still has to look like the rest of Marqeta's brand content, not a screen recording of executives reading a deck.

Executive availability was the other pressure. We had a short window at Marqeta's Oakland office about two weeks before release, and we needed hours of finished footage out of it.

Our Approach

We designed the visual style for the video early, before production. Titles, lower thirds for each presenter, and the split screen layout that keeps a speaker and their slide on screen at the same time. Locking in those decisions early meant our editors weren't waiting on design decisions once we finished filming.

Ahead of production we walked the Oakland office to choose the space, plan camera and lighting positions, and work out load-in logistics with the facilities team. Then we built a shooting schedule around the speakers' calendars.

We filmed with two cinema cameras, which gave our editors two usable angles out of every take and kept the number of repeats down. A large teleprompter with a dedicated operator meant each presenter could read at a natural pace instead of chasing the speed of set-it-and-forget-it software. And because each presentation was fully scripted, the presenters could focus on their delivery performance without having to think about the content. During production, our director coached everyone through the entire process, giving them confidence and feedback at every step.

Post production was designed around the approval process as much as the edit. Each presenter's section started as a pacing cut, with the best takes and angles assembled against the script. Our post production producer reviewed every one of those cuts line by line before slides and graphics went in, because a dropped sentence in a long investor presentation is a real problem. We delivered the video in sections instead of one long file, so investor relations could review their piece while legal was still working through another.

The Outcome

Investor Day is one of a handful of days a year when a public company has the full attention of the people who decide what it's worth. Marqeta got to spend theirs on their own terms. The presentation was polished, on brand, and signed off by every team that had a say, so nobody was sweating what might land wrong in front of analysts. Investors watched on their own time and could go back through any section again.

Pre-recording is what made that possible. Leadership delivered the material once, at their best, and Marqeta's live events with investors were free to be conversations instead of readings.
